The Bible was “assembled” in 425 AD by a collection of religious leaders brought together by Emperor Constantine with a view to calming hostilities between the new christian followers and the older pagan worshipers. The disciples “books” were chosen from about 60 available, using only the ones that suited the purpose at hand. Although it is possible Jesus did exist, he was one of several prophet style speakers of the time and more by luck that judgement was filtered out to be the one that fitted the role that had been spoken of by ancient religious leaders as mentioned in the old testament when hoping for a visiting god in human form.

As for a saviour, it has been 2000 years and I don’t see anysign of the world being saved or even given a helping hand. Would a true god realy need to keep himself hidden for so long. If he were so almighty what has he got to hide.

Darwin explained evolution pretty well and we no longer need to wonder how we got here. Millions of years of  sytematic molecular change not magical intervention.

Even religious leaders know that encoraging people to think for themselves will lead to doubt in the mind of the believer. Martin Luther said “reason is the enemy of faith” making it clear he knew the thinking man would rightly question gods existance.

Have the courage to think for yourself and not be led blindly into unprooven faith.

What sort of example is that to our young, up and coming next generation?

Even our teaching system takes children into school and right from the start teaches the bible and church attendance as if it was without question an absolute fact. How wrong can that be?

Surely schools should only teach provable facts or subjects that can be used to show how to examine a concept without mindless brainwashing. Bible stories can show good use of morals but must not be given as acceptable historical facts, as good as the stories may appear they cannot be quoted as factual.

It is, possibly, difficult for some people to come to terms with the acceptance that the age old belief that life as we live it just stops, but looking at the way the world has evolved how can there be any other feasible explanation. We are all capable of inventing stories that give our imagination room to run wild but if we are honest with ourselves an absolute beginning and final end can be the only realistic truth. Just starting the subject, even with partner, relatives and friends gets me side ways looks, politely suggesting that I’m really pushing it too far. People who don’t even appear to have a religion won’t take the chance a giant hand may strike them or their future may be in jeopardy if they speak their mind.

Honestly, as there really is no giant hand and the only person you have to answer to is you, just live this life to the full and remember it’s the only one you get so make it a good one.

It was once said, if god didn’t exist man would have invented him. It seams quite clear now, given today’s society and the knowledge we have scientifically and socially, that we did invent him.

Children often invent an imaginary friend to help them deal with their growing year’s maybe or to give them a voice to discus their thoughts with when adults are not willing or available to be there at their times of need. Adults will often tell children they are being silly and the friend they have created does not exist, why then are adults so determined to believe in their own imaginary friend when no more evidence exists than that of a child’s belief.

It makes perfect sense why peoples of times gone by had the need for explaining the many unexplained and wonderful occurrences of nature. It took many years for modern man to understand the ways of natural world and to uncover the mysteries of science but now we are in a better position to have these understandings we should also now understand that we have, as members of a modern civilized society, no need for believing in a great creator or all seeing omnipotent being.

That is not to say I do not understand peoples fear of death and the unknown but if a greater acceptance of this life being the only life we have I am sure many more people would do more to make the most of this life instead of the belief that we may get a second or even infinate chances to do this all again.

The major problem with the belief in God or Mohamed or Allah or any single creator is that it has been used through out time as a cause celeb allowing man to control man without actually taking any blame for their actions. How often in any religious writing or preaching does the phrase ‘in the name of God’ occur, very conveniently taking any burden from the very person taking the action.

What must have started as simple man attempting to understand the amazing behavior of the world has been developed by man for mans control over man.

This is most evident in the fanatical behavior of religious terrorism, but possibly almost as dangerous is the historical current trend of predominant world religions to control the masses again using ‘God’ as the cover for their own controlling desires.

It is now being suggested that religious study in schools should once again be altered to give children a greater understanding of world religions, surely teaching them the morals of life for people to live in harmony together without an unseen individual being seen as some overwhelming force threatening punishment in an unknown after life.
